The lockdown at Oak Grove Elementary and High School has been lifted and two people are in custody, Jefferson County officials confirm.
The schools were placed on lock down Friday morning as a precautionary measure while law enforcement officers searched for a suspect in the area. The school ordered the lockdown to make sure no students or faculty were outside during the search.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian said around 8 a.m. a car drove up to West Jefferson Prison and a passenger got out and entered the woods. The passenger then threw contraband onto the prison grounds.
Law enforcement officers took both the car driver and the passenger into custody. Christian said it's unknown what kind of contraband was tossed onto the prison property.
