The City of Montgomery's Development Preview brought handfuls of local and statewide developers anxious to see the status of the city's ongoing projects.
On the list--Madison Avenue development including the State House Inn property, lower Dexter Avenue and building code obstacles, the old Overlook Park construction, and the old Montgomery Mall space.
"I just think it's exciting to see all the things that are going on," says local developer Kyle Kyser.
Kyser is part of recent downtown restaurant and residential developments.
He believes there is momentum in Montgomery, even though projects take time and patience.
He says thankfully, city leaders are willing to work with entrepreneurs.
"Really, it's gonna take that private public partnership in order to have success here in downtown Montgomery," says Kyser.
Efforts to revitalize Montgomery are being noticed in other areas. In fact, developers in other cities are looking at properties here, many interested in developing them.
"Seemed like a lot going on down here and as we continued to delve into it, it proved correct," says Joseph Weldon with Stone River Company in Birmingham.
Weldon has a contract on property along Maxwell Boulevard. The company plans to build loft apartments there.
"We're prepared to invest in the project and we have available funds to be able to do that."
But city leaders know developments don't make a community what it is.
They want to introduce a downtown food truck and public art to help make Montgomery unique.
"Interactive art, things that people can climb on, play on," says Ashley Ledbetter with the Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts.
City leaders opened a request for proposal for anyone interested in developing the State House Inn property.
They say hotel companies are already calling about the property. The next step is to remove asbestos and demolish the existing building.
