The fight to save Cooper Green is now moving to Vestavia Hills.
Supporters are asking all cities in Jefferson County to get involved in the situation. They started at the Vestavia Hills city council meeting last night.
David Russell is on the committee to save Cooper Green. He attended the council meeting and explained the impact of closing Cooper Green as an in-patient facility. Russell pointed out that currently, Brookwood Medical Center has to treat inmates who are in custody of the Vestavia Hills Police Department. Russell hopes he can get other cities to pass a resolution in support of keeping Cooper Green open.
"All we want is the commission to get out of hospital business, set up an authority, let the authority run the hospital," said Russell.
Vestavia Hills city leaders say they will read over the materials provided to them and will make a decision at a later time.
