Childersburg police are questioning a man in connection to a gas station shooting Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Shane Burnette confirms that a man shot another man at the Chevron gas station on Highway 280. He said six Childersburg officers were at the scene minutes after the initial 911 call came in around 8 a.m.
Burnette says when officers arrived, the suspect was still holding a gun. Police told him to put down his weapon and he did. The man, who has not been identified, was then taken into custody for questioning. It will be up to the District Attorney to decide if charges will be filed.
The clerk at the gas station said the shooting happened after the two men got into a fight at the gas station. It's not clear what the men were fighting about. The clerk says the victim was pumping gas when the suspected shooter drove past in his car on 280 westbound. The driver did a U-turn into the gas station and started yelling at the man at the pump.
The clerk says she say the man pumping gas pulled out a baseball bat, and that's when she called 911. The alleged shooter then pulled out a .32 milimeter handgun and shot the man holding the baseball bat.
The victim in the shooting was transported to Coosa Valley E.R. There is no word yet on the severity of his injury. No one else was hurt in the incident.
Chief Burnette says the investigation is on-going. Both men involved live in Talladega County but not Childersburg.
