
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says three employees of the Birmingham Board of Education Transportation Division are facing charges after a criminal investigation.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the State Board of Education Intervention Team contacted the Office of District Attorney Brandon Falls after noticing financial discrepancies in the transportation division. A criminal investigation ensued when the Sheriff's Office was contacted by the DA's Office.
The investigation led to charges against four people for the theft of over $400,000 worth of automotive parts. Three of the suspects were employed by the Birmingham BOE and the fourth was an employee of the auto parts supplier.
50-year-old Maury Willis Pettway, 52-year-old Marcellous Blackmon and 47-year-old Rodney Everson are each charged with one count of 1st degree theft and one count of use of public position for personal gain.
40-year-old Kimberly Watson faces one charge of 1st degree theft.
All 4 suspects are expected to surrender to authorities.
