Tuscaloosa police worked 23 wrecks in a two-hour period due to the weather conditions on Thursday. The snow started coming down in "buckets" in Tuscaloosa Thursday morning, but disappeared almost as quickly as it came.
Students on campus celebrated the snow day by getting into a massive snow ball fight on the quad. More than 100 students joined in the snowy battle as the flakes continued to fall.
But for other parts of the city, the snow and sleet created hazardous driving conditions. Tuscaloosa police say they worked around 23 car wrecks in a two hour span starting at 11 a.m.
Classes are expected to resume at a normal time on Friday.
