ATLANTA (AP) - Parts of the Southeast are digging out from a winter storm that dumped snow around the region and played a role in at least one death.
Weather warnings and advisories were issued Thursday for sections of Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
In Virginia, the areas hardest hit Thursday and Friday are in the southwest, where the National Weather Service says 13 inches were reported in Giles (jyls) County, while Grayson County and the Galax (GAY'-laks) area received about a foot. The state's western mountains received 6-9 inches while several inches or more were reported in central and eastern Virginia.
