Birmingham officials have extended the Boutwell warming station hours through Sunday, Jan. 27 due to the below-freezing temperatures expected during the weekend.
The warming station for people needing a warm place to sleep will opened Monday at Boutwell Auditorium in downtown Birmingham.
The city of Birmingham announced Sunday it would open the warming station at 6 p.m. Monday for anyone who needs refuge from freezing temperatures. The FOX6 StormWarn team is forecasting temperatures to drop into the 20s by sunrise Tuesday.
The warming station will be open at night only. It will reopen at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Organizers are asking for donations of water, deodorant, soap, and sample-sized shampoo. All donations can be dropped off at Boutwell Auditorium.
