HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -

Hoover police confirm one person was killed in a shooting that happened Monday morning.

Officers were called to The Ashford of Hoover Townhomes on Huckleberry Lane shortly before 8 a.m. Monday. The Jefferson County Coroner also responded to the scene. A neighbor told FOX6 they heard five or six gunshots just before 8 a.m.

Hoover Police Capt. Jim Coker tells FOX6 News there is no danger to the public, but said he could not elaborate until detectives gather more evidence. Police are not releasing the victim's name or what led up to the shooting.

The police department posted the following message on their Facebook page:

This morning we responded to a reported shooting at Ashford Townhomes. At this time we do not feel there is any danger to the public. The shooting is still under investigation and we will release more information when it is available.
