Counterfeit money is popping up in some businesses in Shelby County.
Fake $20, $50 and $100 bills have been recovered at gas stations, stores and restaurants in Columbiana.
In two separate cases, someone tried to use counterfeit money at the Piggly Wiggly. Clerks there are trained to spot counterfeits by looking for the watermark security features and using a special marker.
Police are warning businesses about the problem. They are also telling individuals to watch out who they accept money from.
Detective Alexander also says one suspect has been arrested and there's a warrant out for the arrest of another suspect.
Counterfeits have also been found in Calera.
