ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A school safety committee in Etowah County says it needs as much as $5 million to keep schools safe.

The Safety and Security Committee says the money will be used for school police officers and improved surveillance equiptment.

"Everyone is on the same page about it. We've got to do what's best for children, no matter what the cost. And I'm just very excited and feel great about this meeting as we go forward," Southside Principal Dr. Marguerite Early said.

The committee will ask the Etowah County Commission for the funding.
