One of the honorees is Lynne Vining, who has been a nurse at UAB Hospital for 24 years.
Recently she served with the U.S. Navy Reserves stationed in Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan.
For today's "Hospital Heroes" she says the award is about more than herself.
"So the takeaway from this is that I go back and give credit to the people who got me where I am today. Without it, I wouldn't be representing them here now," Vining said.
One doctor and nine nurses were honored during today's ceremony.
