The Greater Birmingham Humane Society has named a new executive director for their organization. Karen Peterlin will officially take over in the role on Feb. 25.
GBHS board chair Lucy Thompson Marsh says after a nationwide search, they found exactly who they wanted to take over the role "right here in Birmingham."
Peterlin is the current CEO/President of Kid One and has been a part of that nonprofit organization since March 2008. Prior to working in Kid One, Petelin served in various leadership positions with Girl Scouts of North America, including COO and acting CEO. Peterlin also has a military background with the U.S. Army.
"The Greater Birmingham, Humane Society is a well-known non-profit throughout the Birmingham community and this is an exciting time for the organization," Peterlin said in a release.
"I appreciate the opportunity to work with a well diverse and knowledgeable staff and to use my skills to lead this organization to a new level of greatness," she added.
Peterlin has met with the GBHS staff and has begun working with interim director Molly McGregor in preparation for the transition.
