TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

The Tuscaloosa PD has confirmed that a five-year-old girl was killed on Sunday after being struck by a vehicle.

Police have identified the little girl as Jamiya Dudley. She was hit by a truck while walking on 25th Avenue near Fourth Street a little around 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.

Police say the driver of a 1997 Chevy truck stopped at a stop sign at 4th Street East and 25th Avenue East and didn't see anything, so he drove forward.

"He felt the vehicle hit something and then realized he had hit two pedestrians," Sgt. Brent Blankley said in a release.

The pedestrians were two females, ages 14 and five. The driver put both of the victims into his truck and drove them to the hospital and called police. The call came into 911 at 2:07 p.m.

Police say the 14-year-old victim, whose identity will not be released, said she thought the driver had stopped for them, so they started walking across the road when they were hit.

Sgt. Blankley says the accident is still under investigation, but no charges are expected.
