U.S. Senator Richard Shelby spoke in Tuscaloosa on Monday morning. Shelby was guest speaker at today's Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama breakfast.
The senator talked about the nation's debt problem, gun control legislation and the Republican Party's willingness to work with the president on issues facing the nation. We asked him about cutting or adjusting entitlement spending on social security.
"Social security, for an example, is a great program. We don't need to cut social security. We can save social security in 2 or 3 ways for the baby boomers. We can run the age up over period of time which gives people time to plan because we live longer," said Shelby.
Shelby will be back in Alabama doing other speaking engagements throughout the month. He will be in Walker, Shelby, and Bibb Counties.
