Some local elementary students are spreading good cheer this Valentine's Day.
Third graders at Shades Cahaba Elementary are making Valentine's Day cards for the homeless. The idea was to make generic Valentine's Day cards for various agencies in Birmingham. After learning about the project, one of the students wanted to specifically give the cards to the Salvation Army.
Teacher DeLaine Ragland says this is a great teaching moment for her students.
"This is really important to show the students that not everyone has a warm place to stay or a warm meal and everyone needs help from time to time," said Ragland.
Salvation Army Captain Kathy Parker picked up the cards today. She said they will go to people staying in the emergency shelter.
