Birmingham Mayor William Bell has offered a resolution to the $20,000 that is still unpaid to the funeral home for the funeral of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth.
In a statement, Bell said "In light of uncertainty, we have been working with the Bethel Baptist Church to act as fiscal agent for outstanding invoices owed as a result of the Shuttlesworth Funeral. All parties have agreed to this and it is only fitting that the church so beloved by Reverend Shuttlesworth will stand in the gap."
The Birmingham City Council approved $20,000 in funds with the money designated for the burial site as part of the city's new civil rights trail. The foundation thought that money would help cover burial expenses for the three day service.
