Efforts continue to find justice for victims of hate crimes in Alabama.
A special vigil was held on the capitol steps yesterday to remember victims of hate and violence. It is connected to the anniversary of the murder of 39-year-old Billy Jack Gaither.
On February 19, 1999 Gaither was brutally killed and his body burned. His advocates say it was because he was gay.
Yesterday's rally was held to bring attention to the state's hate crime law that still excludes crimes based on orientation and identity. Eight different organizations co-sponsored the event.
