OPELIKA - Police in Opelika shut down 2 miles of Interstate 85 while crews worked overnight to clean up after a tanker truck carrying chemicals overturned.
Authorities say, around 11 p.m. Friday, the tanker truck overturned onto a median with its cab in a southbound lane after striking a Buick Lacrosse, which had just crashed into a median railing on 1-85 and came into rest in a northbound lane. The driver of the Buick was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Police say the tanker driver has been treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
The tanker was carrying an industrial chemical and cleanup crews had to spend hours at the scene and the roadway remained closed into Saturday morning.
