WALKER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

If you get a phone call, text or email threatening prosecution for failing to comply with jury service hit the delete button.

A jury duty scam is quickly spreading across the country. Victims are told to pay a fine for skipping jury duty and asked to provide personal information that could be used for identity theft and fraud.

Several people in walker county have been contacted.

Ciruit Clerk Susan Odom wants you to know that these actions are not from actual court officials.

Contact between the Walker County Courts and a prospective juror is done through the u.s. mail.

Odom says "Walker County Court system does not call, text or email anyone regarding their failure to comply with jury service. If we did, we would not require anyone to provide any social security numbers or personal information."

If you have questions about jury duty contact the clerk's office at 205-384-7268.
