We may not be in Milan, Paris or New York but Birmingham fashionistas are busy hosting the 3rd annual Birmingham Fashion Week Wednesday night.
The event has grown quite a bit over the last three years, from 3 days to a full week, and even gives locals a chance to model.
Birmingham Fashion Week founder Heidi Elnora know the industry well. The former "Project Runway" contestant's line of bridal gowns is carried in Nordstrom stores around the country. Despite her success she wanted to bring what she'd learned back to Birmingham.
"We are really giving people the chance to show their talents on the runway which they wouldn't have otherwise," Elnora said.
People like aspiring model Brandon Chandler from Huntsville, who is walking in five shows this week.
"It gives me access to do something like this because I don't think I'd be able to," Chandler said.
Elnora know some people may scoff when they hear that the city has a week dedicated to fashion. But as she points out, great fashion is everywhere.
"Come see it. There is a great fashion community here. It doesn't have to be in New York, it can be in Alabama. I'm living proof."
The first runway show took place Wednesday night. But organizers say the biggest event will be Saturday, when the number one womens wear designer in the country, Tibi, will hold a show. TLC will also be in town filming some of this week's events.
