The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, March 5.
A
viewer sent me an email asking that I do an editorial on respect and
the lack there of being exhibited by folks on the phone, on the internet
and in person.
Respect means different things to different
people. There are those who believe that respect is earned…through
knowledge, behavior, experience, position or age… like senior citizens.
Others believe that respect is a courtesy due everyone without regard
to any of those criteria.
No matter how you define it, respect is
a two way street. I've met folks that talk about the lack of respect
being shown them, but at the same time they feel they have the right to
bark at people, to be discourteous or impatient or to walk around with a
perpetual scowl on their face. You get out of life, what you give…
Respectfulness does seem to be rarer these days. What do you think?
