Birmingham fire officials confirm that three firefighters were injured at a house fire Wednesday evening.
The
blaze happened at a home on 18th Place Southwest in West End. Officials
say that two firefighters sustained second and third degree burns and
another fell from a ladder. All three have been transported to UAB with
non life-threatening injuries.
Reporter Vanessa Araiza spoke with Malinda Hubbard, the daughter of the homeowner, who says her 78-year-old father got out of the house safely and went to a neighbor's for help.
Hubbard says that she brings her father, Henry
Moultrie, dinner every night but when she pulled up Wednesday, she saw
fire crews on scene. Hubbard says her father told her while he was
sitting on his couch he noticed flames, tried to put them out but ended
up leaving the house.
Firefighters first received a call
about the blaze at 7:30 p.m. and are still on scene monitoring several
hot spots. The initial cause of the fire is believed to be a heating
unit in the basement of the home.
