Here is what you saw on Good Day Alabama for March 7, 2013:
JEH JEH LIVE - Jeh Jeh joined us this morning to talk about The Charity League. He let us meet two parents whose lives were forever changed when all 3 of their children were born profoundly deaf. They share how The Charity League and The HEAR Center of Children's Hospital dramatically impacted their lives. They also discuss the Charity League's event on March 8th - HEAR ME ROAR. You can learn more about The Charity League, becoming involved and purchase tickets for the March 8th event online at thecharityleague.org.The Charity League HEAR Center was initially started back in 1995. It serves families from all over the state of Alabama and some surrounding states - babies as young as a couple of months and children up through high school age. The Charity League provides much needed scholarships for families who's insurance does not cover the cost of HA's or therapies.
GOOD DEEDS - Shari Arison joined us this morning to talk about good deeds! She's the author of "Activate Your Goodness: Transforming the World through Doing Good." Shari Arison - who was ranked No. 57 on Forbes World's Most Powerful Women list--will be available for live interviews to discuss Good Deeds Day and her new book, Activate Your Goodness: Transforming The World Through Doing Good, which reinforces how doing good for yourself, those closest to you, your community, country, and even the planet can transform your life. Activate Your Goodness gives clear and effective guidelines for people who wish to do more good in the world. She shares her own inspirational journey and her philosophy that by "thinking good, speaking good, and doing good," individuals hold the power to transform the world into a better place, creating lasting and real change for future generations. Good Deeds Day began over six years ago in Israel, and is now becoming an international tradition of doing good. All over the world, thousands choose to volunteer and help others, putting into practice the simple idea that every single person can do something good, be it large or small, to improve the lives of others and positively change the world. The New Zealand native has 186 starts between the CART and IndyCar Series, producing 27 wins, 19 poles, 90 top-5 finishes, and 132 top-10 finishes (2001-Present).
BARGAINOMICS LADY - Judy Bates, the Bargainomics lady, joined us this morning with some deals! If you're paying a monthly cell phone bill just to have a phone for emergencies or if you're not one to use a lot of airtime, you need to consider trying www.PlatinumTel.com. Platinum Tel operates on Sprint's system, so you get great coverage but at a super low price. You can buy one of their phones for as little as $39.99 or switch your own phone over to their service by buying one of their $4.99 SIM cards. And how big a bargain is their service? They offer REAL PAYGO pay-as-you-go plan that costs 5 cents a minute for calls; 2 cents for texts; & 10 cents per MB of web browsing. A $10 fill gives you 30 days of service, but here's the smart buy: if you buy a $100 fill, this is good for up to a full year with no monthly fees of any kind. That averages out to less than $9 a month for service and, when an emergency does come up and you need to make a lot of calls, you have the minutes available without having to worry about running out or going over your limit. And with the $100 plan, even if you don't use it all within the year, as long as you refill before your balance reaches zero or your year is up, your balance will carry over. My husband Larry had tons of time left at the end of his first year with Platinum Tel, so he bought a $10 card - that's the smallest amount they offer - and he's now on his second year at a total cost of $110. Still remember when a bar of lye soap did everything from wash the dishes to scrub the floors? Nowadays we're been convinced we need a specialty product for every cleaning job we undertake - and that's just not so. Not only that, we don't need to use all the harsh chemicals that many cleaning products contain when a simple bottle of inexpensive environmentally safe vinegar will do those jobs. For example, there's no better way to get rid of mold and mildew than simply wiping down surfaces with straight vinegar. And if you want a safe way to wash vegetables and fruit, you can make your own version of "Fit Fruit & Vegetable Wash" by mixing a cup of water with a cup of vinegar and putting it a clean new spray bottle - you can pick one up for around $1. Be sure to label the bottle. Distilled vinegar is cheaper than apple cider vinegar and less acidic, so that's the one Judy prefers to use. You'll find a bunch of great uses at www.VersatileVinegar.org. And if you're thinking of heading for the beach, Young's Suncoast has some nice discounts on condos and beach houses. Between now and May 15th you get 7 nights for the price of 5 with code SPR137 or 4 nights for the price of 3 with code SPR134. You can find them online at www.YoungsSuncoast.com or call them toll-free at (866) 375-9159. If you missed any of this, you can find the info on www.Bargainomics.com.
