Vestavia police investigate suspicious propane tank

The Vestavia Hills Police Department says they are taking extreme precautions after finding a suspicious propane tank.

Officers say the top of the tank had been in contact with something other than propane. They believe the tank may have been used in the manufacture of meth.

The tank was found near the Rite Aid in Vestavia on Highway 31 and Kentucky Avenue. Officers have closed off sections of the roads, but say it is not an immediate threat to the area.

Police are still investigating. They say the area should be cleaned up soon.
