Man arrested at Homewood hotel for trafficking cocaine

HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) -

Homewood police have arrested a 23-year-old Birmingham man on multiple drug charges after finding cocaine and marijuana in his hotel room.

According to a release from Homewood PD, officers were patrolling the Laquinta Inn on State Farm Parkway around 10:40 a.m. this morning when they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from one of the rooms.

The officers spoke to the occupant, Robert Thomas, and noticed a hand gun, clear plastic bags of cocaine, a bag of marijuana and lortab inside an open drawer in the room.

Police also found a plastic bag with more cocaine and a set of digital scales inside the hotel room. Police say the handgun was reported stolen out of Tarrant.

Thomas was arrested on the following charges:

Drug Trafficking (cocaine)-$50,000 bond

Unlawful possession of controlled substance- $7500 bond

Unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd - $300 bond

He is being held in the Homewood City Jail.
