BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Vestavia police have issued a misdemeanor warrant for a man they believe is scamming residents.

Officers say they have gotten numerous fraud reports from homeowners regarding people who are claiming to do tree work.

The police department posted on their Facebook page that they believe one of the people involved is Jason Mears, 42 of Alabaster. Mears allegedly represents himself as a part of Southern Tree & Stump and even provides a business card displaying the names Jason & Regan Hart with a phone number of 205-522-6092.

Police add that Mears may be accompanied by a white female in her 30s with blonde hair. The pair may be driving a pick up truck.

Officers strongly encourage homeowners to verify that any individual soliciting such work have a business license or references.

Any resident who may have information leading to Mears or who believes they may be a victim of the scam should call Sgt. Gurley at 205-978-0230. Residents may also text an anonymous tip to 274637 (CRIMES), keyword VHPD, or submit a tip through the department's Facebook Page.
