Got an opinion on who makes the best barbecue in Bama? You can vote for your favorite barbecue joint in the state out of 32 restaurants listed in the first-ever Alabama Barbecue Bracket.
The competition is sponsored by Alabama Tourism and follows a March-Madness style bracket that narrows down the options from four regionally-based divisions.
The match-ups are based on a social media poll that
Alabama Tourism conducted last year that garnered more than 180
responses. The top eight submissions for each region, North, South,
Central and Gulf Coast, ended up in the Alabama BBQ Bracket.
of the Central Alabama contestants include Birmingham's Full Moon,
Golden Rule, and Moe's Original restaurants, Tuscaloosa's Jim 'N Nick's
and Dreamland, Northport's Archibalds and Saw's BBQ in Homewood.
Starting today, you can cast your vote at the Alabama Food Facebook page here: http://www.Facebook.com/AlabamaFood.
Each head-to-head match-up gets three days of voting to determine a winner. The restaurants with the most votes move on to the Sweet 16 bracket, an Elite Eight and then a Final Four. The Final Four voting takes place from April 1 through April 5. A final winner will be declared on April 8.
See the schedule for voting here on the Alabama Farm to Table Blog.
"Barbecue is part of our heritage," Alabama Tourism Director Lee Sentell said in a news release about the bracket.
"As a result, there's always been a debate in this state about which restaurant serves the best barbecue. Our Barbecue Bracket gives Alabamians and visitors an opportunity to choose their favorite barbecue restaurant. It'll be a very tough competition, because our restaurants make some of the best barbecue in the country," Sentell said.
