BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement and to help mark the occasion, the city of Birmingham is partnering with Alabama Power for a year-long celebration. City leaders announced the partnership Tuesday morning.
Each month, Alabama Power will sponsor activities remembering that pivotal time in our history. Alabama Power officials and Birmingham Mayor William Bell says it is important we remember how Alabama helped change the world for the better.
"We not only changed Birmingham and Alabama, but we also changed the world. Many of us would not be in the positions we are today without this movement," said Bell.
