Source: WBRC videoIn five weeks and one day, the Birmingham Barons will throw their first pitch at Regions Field. But if you've driven by lately and seen all of the dirt and concrete, it's easy to wonder: can they be ready in time?
Mayor William Bell and Councilor Johnathan Austin are confident the answer is "Yes." They say the recent rain delayed laying the sod but they're both confident the stadium will be ready for the first home game April 10.
According to the city leaders the construction crews are hard at work seven days a week to install seats and signage, to finish the private suites and many other projects. The crews hope to hit a major milestone by the end this week when they finish moving a major sewer pipeline into place.
They say that by the end of next week the last two buildings on the site will be completed and they will test the stadium lights as well.
