The Birmingham Board of Education has a new member. Wardine Alexander will represent District 7.
Alexander replaces Alana Edwards Haynes, who resigned last month to spend more time with her baby girl.
Alexander received a total of five votes Tuesday night. She works full time at Bio Life Plasma Services as a trainer and supervisor.
Alexander plans to encourage more girls to get interested in science and math.
