Kimberly Nicole Ford, 31, is charged with first degree robbery. She was suspected of robbing the Dollar General on Monday morning with an AR-15 style weapon, forcing the clerk to hand over two tills of money. As it turns out, the gun was fake, according to Springville Police Chief Bill Lyle.
Chief Lyle said Ford tossed the pellet gun from her SUV's window once she saw police officers approaching. Ford also threw out the cash drawers taken from the store, but kept the money. Chief Lyle says her motive in the robbery was to bail her boyfriend out of the jail in Guntersville.
Sumter County deputies
and Livingston Police located Ford at a motel in Livingston with her
boyfriend. She was arrested at the motel on Tuesday.
Chief Lyle credits the community for watching the news and contacting police with leads that led to Ford's identity and arrest.
