Man arrested for beating store clerk when asked to pay

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police arrested a man they said beat up a store clerk when he was asked to pay.

Police said Adam Hawkins went to Victory Food Mart on North Memorial Parkway last night and asked for a can of tobacco.

When the clerk handed him the product, Hawkins tried to hug the clerk to thank him.

When the clerk told him he had to pay, police said Hawkins started hitting him in the head and chest.

Another customer walked in and called police.
