BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Elton John has canceled his Birmingham concert just a few hours before he was supposed to appear on the BJCC stage.

The Friday, March 15 show has been canceled "due to medical reasons," according to a press release from the BJCC.

Tickets should be returned to the original point of purchase for a refund. Any tickets bought through Ticketmaster.com or over the phone will be automatically be refunded.

Elton John's next performance is scheduled for Saturday, March 16 in Memphis, Tenn. according to the tour dates listed on his website. Officials at the Fedex Forum Arena said he is still set to perform there tomorrow night.

Elton John is scheduled to return to Alabama the following week to perform at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery on March 22.

In response to the concert cancellation, Opera Birmingham is offering a deal for fans who purchased Elton John tickets. Anyone with an Elton John ticket is invited to "buy one, get one free" tickets to Opera Birmingham's performance of "The Magic Flute." The opera is being held at the Samford Wright Center tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Opera Birmingham says the Wright Center box office opens one hour before each performance. For more details about "The Magic Flute," visit www.operabirmingham.org.
