HELENA, AL (WBRC) -

Thanks to some home surveillance footage and the public's help, Helena police were able to apprehend a man accused of breaking into vehicles and stealing property.

Police have arrested and charged Justin Lee Burkhart, 22, with 10 counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Officers say that March 14, they believe Burkhart hit vehicles in the Fieldstone, Jackson Square, Ashley Brook and Brandywine subdivisions. A resident was able to share a picture of a possible suspect from their home surveillance system.

Burkhart confessed to breaking into the vehicles and also indicated he had information about someone who is suspected of damaging yards in Fieldstone.

Helena Police thanked the public for their assistance in this case and remind all vehicle owners to store their valuables out of sight and lock their vehicle doors.
