Authorities have euthanized a dog after it attacked an East Texas child last week.
The Rusk County Sheriff's Office says that on Tuesday, March 12, the dog attacked a boy in the 190 block of Deer Trail.
Officials say the boy had severe injuries to his head and face, and was transported to a local hospital. That's where Henderson police officers found him, and spoke to his family about the attack.
The boy's injuries were severe enough that he was transported to Children's Medical Center in Dallas. He was treated, and released a few days later.
The dog was taken into custody, and later euthanized. The dog's breed has not yet been determined, and authorities are investigating whether or not the dog had rabies.
The name of the dog's owner has not been released, and it's unclear if that owner will face any charges for the attack.
