Auburn Police confirm they are searching for a rape suspect after a female reported he sexual assaulted her on Auburn University's campus Tuesday night.
The man is described as a college-aged muscular white male who has a beard or facial hair. The suspect also has fingernail scratches on his face and neck due to the victim's resistance.
Authorities say the assault happened near the edge of campus on Samford Avenue near Hemlock Drive. The 20-year-old victim, who is not an Auburn student, was jogging when she says her attacker grabbed her from behind and dragged her to a nearby woodline where he sexually assaulted her.
Police saturated the area looking for the suspect, even bringing in a search dog, but were unsuccessful in locating the man.
The victim was taken to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment.
Officials are urging caution and say to stay aware of your surroundings when on campus and to walk or jog with others, not by yourself.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Auburn Police Division at (334) 501-3140 or anonymously by text or voice on the tip line at (334) 246-1391.
