BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested a convicted sex offender after he attempted to create a new identity for himself.

Jeffco Sheriff's Computer Forensics and Sex Offender Units received an anonymous tip that a local sex offender was visiting a local coffee house and using the free wifi to access the internet and social media sites. Investigators discovered the man to be registered sex offender Tye Christopher Moore, who was using the alias ‘Israel Moore.' Investigators say Moore had registered with the sex offender unit under his true name, but had failed to provide information about his assumed name and social media activities.

Search warrants were obtained for his vehicle and residence in the 7200 block of Rome Avenue in Birmingham. The warrants were executed on Tuesday while the vehicle was at the coffee house. Investigators found evidence of the activities and attempts to conceal his true identity. The evidence will be further reviewed for any other criminal activity.

Moore was convicted of 2nd degree child molestation against a 12-year-old female in Washington State in 2008. He now faces one count of failing to provide required information when registering and one count of failing to notify of name change. Both are felonies under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Moore is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
