Community members attend a meeting about upcoming school closings. Source: WBRC videoParents had another chance to express their concerns of the closing of some Birmingham City Schools Thursday evening.
Parents had a chance to hear why their schools were chosen to close and they also had an opportunity to voice their concerns and ask that their schools remain open.
School officials also explained that the teachers at the schools will not be fire but transferred to other schools. Some parents say they left feeling as though they had a better understanding of the closures but others left frustrated.
"We do feel we've been slighted," said Tammy Harbison. "We were told one thing, and they turned around and did something else. We've done a lot of work due to accreditation and we feel we've been treated unfairly."
Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon says that while his plan has already been adopted by the board, that doesn't mean they aren't willing to take a second look and address concerns brought up Thursday night. For now though, he says these schools remain on the list.
