Winter weather likely to stay out of central Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

UPDATE: Thursday night brings a minimal chance for winter weather for the northern part of the state.

The FOX6 Stormwarn Team says the possible winter weather should not affect travel, and expects little to no accumulation. Northern areas may see rain and snow with sleet appearing further to the south.

From J-P Dice on the FOX6 Weather page and blog:

The forecast has been keeping us a bit busy over the last several days. But, it looks like any threat for Winter weather tonight will be very minimal. It's possible we could see some snow/rain mixed briefly North of I-20 - especially toward the Tennessee Valley. No accumulation is expected and no travel problems are forecast. We can expect temperatures tonight to remain above freezing with lows around 36.

The precipitation will begin as early as 8-9pm and last overnight.  I think most areas should be all rain by 3am.

Friday looks to be a wet period with showers likely off and on throughout the day. Highs will be chilly only reaching the upper 40s to lower 50s.

Expect rain and storms throughout the weekend. It's possible we could see some stronger storms Saturday afternoon in South and Central Alabama. The best chance for those storms will be Montgomery southward. Highs will reach the mid to upper 60s this weekend. However, if the warm front does advance far enough northward we could be dealing with severe issues here - mainly hail and high winds. This is something to watch.

Expect drier weather late Sunday with the return of some sunshine Monday/Tuesday. Expect cooler temperatures next week.
