BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Wenonah High School basketball players are starting an anti-violence campaign in response to the killing of a 15-year-old at Railroad Park.

The Wenonah Dragons produced a public service announcement following Jarmaine Walton's murder. Several seniors on the team speak about the senselessness of Walton's death and encourage their peers to "Stop the violence."

The team won their third straight state championship this past season. Their coach says that gave his players a platform for campaigns like this one.

"They're respected by a lot of people, now for the work they put in, and it's due. We're hoping that we can spread the word for the younger kids, and even the kids their age, just cut the violence short," Coach Cedric Lane said.

The school's principal says she's proud of the players for participating in the video. She adds they're great representatives for Wenonah on and off the court.

The PSA video has nearly 1,000 views at this time.
