A family is still searching for answers 33 years after their loved one was killed.
Barbara Sellers' body was found in a wooded area of Hoover back in 1980. No one has ever been arrested in connection with her murder.
Even though it's been three decades since Barbara's death, the anniversary is still an emotional time for her family.
Barbara's family remembers her as a beautiful young lady in her early 20s, with so much life ahead of her.
"Very talented, she played the piano beautifully. She was just wonderful," Barbara's mom Ida Sellers said.
Everything changed for their family in February 1980 when Barbara disappeared. Her body discovered on March 25, 1980 in a wooded area where Prince of Peace Church now sits.
"It's hard especially on the anniversary day. It's gut-wrenching," Barbara Sellers' brother Greg Sellers said.
Greg felt compelled to do something to honor his sister and came up with an idea for a memorial. It's located just off Sulpher Springs Road near Shades Crest Road.
"Putting a stone down is semi-closure for me, so this year I've got a scripture on here John 14:26 I'm just trying to turn a tragedy into something for the Lord," Greg said.
The Sellers say they've relied on God to help them through this difficult time.
"You have to trust in the Lord. That's one thing. And you have to think about your family. They're suffering also and you need to hold up for them," Ida Sellers said.
This family hopes anyone who drives by the memorial will see their faith in Christ.
"I live just down the street so I'll pass it everyday. I'll think of her and the memories we all share with her," Barbara's niece Kayla Meadow said.
"We have good times and bad times but the person who killed my sister killed part of my family and the things I do like the monument and the rocks give me semi-closure," Greg added.
Hoover police say they don't have any new information about this case right now.
At the time, they questioned a few people but they never had enough evidence to arrest anyone. They don't have any current suspects.
