Birmingham has been named a top spring destination, a comeback city and an up-and-coming food city. Now, Forbes magazine has recognized the Magic City's downtown as one of the fastest 'emerging' in the nation.
Forbes created their list based on the economic and population growth of several downtown areas. They cite the new Regions Field, Railroad Park and a 32 percent increase in population as factors that landed Birmingham on the list.
Business leaders welcomed today's recognition.
"You can't make it up and get into Forbes. What is going on is tremendous growth both in the residential side, solid employment growth and business growth," businessman David Fleming said.
Mayor William Bell says just a few years ago, some people wanted to declare downtown Birmingham dead.
