Suspect arrested in Birmingham officer-involved shooting

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police say they have arrested a suspect in connection to an officer-involved shooting.

The incident happened Saturday, March 30 around 3 p.m. in the 3200 block of 17th Avenue North. Police say that there was an "altercation" between Larry McCoy, 34 of Birmingham, and an officer.

McCoy has been charged with three attempted murder warrants and his being held on no bond at the Jefferson County jail.

McCoy sustained a non life-threatening wound to the shoulder and was transported to UAB for treatment. The officer was not injured and recovered what police say is McCoy's handgun at the scene.

The ABI and the Birmingham Police Department's Internal Affairs are conducting investigations into the shooting.
