In the last couple of weeks some tragic events have occurred in our community that have produced questions about the safety of downtown, Railroad Park and the new entertainment district. Mayor Bell and city officials have responded with increased police patrols and reassurances of safety for this important part of our city, and it is that.
It is and should be important to all of us that Birmingham grows and thrives as a place to live; as a place to do business. Properties are being purchased and refurbished as residences throughout the city [are] bringing people back to the city to live. We need that to happen and we need more retail business downtown to make it easy to live in our city center to support our newest residents. Why? Because it means jobs and prosperity for our community.
Birmingham remains one of the largest and most visible cities in our state. When Birmingham thrives we all do.
