An Irondale girl that was kidnapped on Thursday morning was reunited with her mother just a few hours later.
Irondale police say a man claiming to be the child's father kicked in the front door of the mother's home in the 500 block of Wonder Lane around 8:30 a.m.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jackie Henderson Jr., took the almost-two-year-old and fled. Officers believe Henderson took the child to a relative's home and she eventually ended up with her grandmother. The grandmother took her to police at city hall.
The mother and child were reunited around 11:30 a.m. Irondale Police Sgt. Jason Hill handed the girl over to the mother in the city hall parking lot before they all went inside.
Just after 2 p.m., Sgt. Jason Hill with Irondale PD said Henderson had turned himself in. He said Henderson will be held for 48 hours pending felony charges. The case will be presented to the district attorney's office Friday morning.
Detectives are trying to determine the relationship between Henderson and the child. They say he is not listed on the girl's birth certificate and the mother told police she is not sure who the father is. Officers say the main concern was getting the girl back safely.
Henderson may have some outstanding warrants and could face burglary, theft of property and other charges in this case.
