Former Alabama star Rolando McClain is out of a job in the NFL.
The Oakland Raiders waived McClain after drafting him less than three years ago.
Apparently, the former eighth round draft pick was trouble off the field and in the locker room and didn't live up to the expectations that went with being the eighth overall pick.
McClain told NBC Sports Friday afternoon that he wanted to thank the Oakland Raiders for giving him the chance to play in the NFL and that he is disappointed that it hasn't worked out better. He said he's thankful for the Raiders allowing him to get a fresh start.
McClain had a career-high 99 tackles and five sacks in 2011.
The Raiders did give McClain and his agent Pat Dye Jr. a chance to work out a trade, but there was never any interest down that path.
McClain was charged with assaulting a man at a Decatur resident and firing a gun close to the man's head in December of 2011.
He was booked on assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm inside the city limits.
Charges were later dropped.
