BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Authorities still don't know what caused a fatal accident involving a Shelby County teenager. It happened Saturday night on Highway 55 near Columbiana.

Authorities say 16-year-old Nicholas Hill was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant when he ran off the road and hit a tree. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused Hill to swerve and crash. Alabama State Trooper Curtis Summerville says speed was a factor in the wreck.
