The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, April 9:
Spring has sprung and with it has come some good economic news for our region. Housing sales are up, In fact, new housing developments are popping up throughout the area. Store fronts are sporting new enterprises and automotive sales are on the rise. Major renovation is being done at the Galleria and the Summit continues to add new stores and restaurants. Have you tried finding a parking spot at your favorite shopping center lately? It's a good problem to have.
While our state's unemployment rate still remains too high at 7.2%...we want everyone who wants a job to have one. It is great to see business being done again.
Our country was once a manufacturing giant…providing jobs at home and goods to the world. Over the last several decades we have seen massive declines in our manufacturing output, hinging much of our economic well-being on service-based businesses and resultant consumer spending. We are glad to see that folks apparently have enough confidence to being doing just that. What do you think?
