Last week, the Texas Education Agency received an allegation of testing irregularity during the Spring 2012 STAAR testing at a Tyler Independent School District campus. The TEA is reviewing the allegation.
According to a statement from the TEA, if it is determined that an investigation is needed the agency will ask the district to investigate and then submit a report. Based on the district findings, the TEA will then determined what steps will be taken next.
Steps could include additional staff training, a review of security procedures and a review of testing procedures.
If more serious findings, such as tampering with tests or cheating, then more serious actions could be taken, including monitoring, further investigations by the certification unit against individuals, or a Special Accreditation Investigation.
Tyler ISD Superintendent Gary Mooring said he has heard nothing about the allegations. Mooring said that irregularities could just mean a test was lost or misplaced and that TISd is very open about reporting such irregularities.
